Dogs & Cream opens on Douglas Avenue

RACINE — Dogs & Cream, a new specialty hot dog and ice cream shop, opened Monday at 2721 Douglas Ave.

The hot dog eatery occupies the building that formerly housed Caesar’s restaurant. It has indoor and outdoor seating and a drive-thru.

The owner, Eric Robinson, said Dogs & Cream is a family-owned place and hopes it will fit in well with the community. His wife, Maggie, and sister-in-law, Perla Cabrera, are partners.

The menu at Dogs & Cream consists of about 18 different variations of hot dogs, including a mac ‘n cheese dog, the potato sausage and the Hotlanta dog, which Robinson said is definitely one to try.

Robinson said his goal when it comes to customers is to “find what they like, and give them more of it.”

He estimated they had 130 customers on the first day in operation.

Also on the menu are twisted lemonades. Robinson said customers should be on the look-out for a special twisted lemonade flavor, Spicy Mango, which will be released in two weeks and will be a limited-time offer. Another favorite on the drink menu is the Horchata smoothie.

“It’s a great place,” said customer John Demark, who came to Dogs & Cream with his great-niece on Monday. “I’ll be coming back. It’s nice and clean, and the people are very friendly.”

Robinson said he looks forward to doing fun events and promotions for families, including Dog of the Month, coloring pages for kids and a frequency card through which customers will get one hot dog free after trying eight different hot dog varieties.

If the location does well, Robinson hopes to open three or four other locations, as well as start catering.
