McDonald’s on Douglas open following small kitchen fire

RACINE — A fire started inside the McDonald’s at 3037 Douglas Ave. at about noon on Saturday. The Racine Fire Department responded to the call shortly thereafter. All employees and customers were evacuated and unharmed.

Employees who were working at the time the fire broke out said they saw visible flames coming from behind kitchen ventilation equipment.

Racine Fire Battalion Chief Willie Hargrove said the extinguishing system worked the way it was supposed to and the Fire Department made sure there was no extension into the walls or ceilings.

Hargrove said Saturday afternoon that the city Health Department was called to make sure it was safe for the restaurant to reopen.

The eatery was back open as of Saturday night.
